MARINE FORUMS – April 1, 2008 – 10:30 am - 1:00 pm
With the 2008 Marine Forum, you will get strategic and technical information on productivity gains, finished products quality improvements, and styrene significant reduction in marine composites parts manufacturing processes. Early booking recommended (no waiting, fast access, free show entrance badge included).
The marine forum will be animated by Mr. Sebastiano Rech Morasutti, TRIMARINE
Member of the SAMPE (Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering) since 1994 and of the SNAME (Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers). In 1995, he co-founded Trimarine in the UK and Italy: consulting, planning, and project management services in the field of naval construction with advanced composites. He has been involved in several projects: Project Manager, construction of the Maxi Yacht “Virtuelle”,Technical
Director of the Construction Team, construction of the America’s Cup ITA-72
yacht “Mascalzone Latino” for the challenge in Auckland (New Zealand) in 2003, Project
Manager, construction of the America’s Cup ITA-85 yacht “+39 Challenge” and
subsequently Technical Coordinator during the 32nd America’s Cup Challenge taking
place in Valencia in 2007, construction of the “Lexus” Class TP52 yacht, winner of
the 2005 Copa del Rey in Palma di Majorca.
Coordinator of the Master’s of Yacht Design at the European Design Institute [IED], which takes place at the IED location in Isola della Certosa, Venice.

• Customer testimonial
Huntsman (CH): Mr. Duncan Howland, Marine Technical Support Engineer
EI-BO Produktion A/S(DE): Mr. Jorgen Bo Poulsen, Owner
2/ Polymer coating technologies for improved crack resistance and blush-resistant applications
• Opportunities from market analysis and extensive discovery meetings with fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) boat builders
• A polymer coating technology (PCT) and polymer barrier technology (PBT) developed with superior toughness and impact resistance
• A polymer coating technology (PCT) developed to retain its deep rich colour and high gloss when repaired or when exposed to water
CCP CRAY VALLEY (USA): Mr. Matthew Edmonds, Key Account Manager
3/ Description of a methodology to reach good surface quality in vacuum infusion for marine applications
• How to determine and numerically quantify the visual quality of a laminate
• Influence of reinforcements and resin properties
• How to reach a surface quality equal to HLU without the extra cost of a skin coat
AHLSTROM GLASSFIBRE (FI): Mr. Rainer Bergström, R&D Manager
ASHLAND COMPOSITE POLYMERS: Mr. Olli Piiroinen

4/ Reactive co-promoters for unsaturated polyester resins used in the marine industry
• Formulating resins with reduced styrene levels
• A resin building block that exhibits co-promoter activity and functions as a styrene replacement
EASTMAN (UK): Mr. Carlo Testa, Technical Supervisor
5/ Using peroxides to optimize process control for styrene emissions
• Using the right peroxide formulation makes it possible to reduce styrene emissions by building up the laminate in fewer steps and to reduce the number of open layers
• Results from an experimental study
